WA: Man gets six years over bridegroom death
A father who punched a bridegroom-to-be for revenge during his buck's party, causing
him to hit his head on a driveway and later die in hospital, will spend at least two years
in jail.
The 38-year-old father was found guilty yesterday by a District Court jury of causing
grievous bodily harm to GAVIN WILLIAMS on September 25 last year.
But the man, who can't be identified to protect the identity of his 15-year-old son,
was found not guilty of manslaughter.
The court was told that the man, who'd been drinking at a nearby tavern, marched into
the buck's party angry and bent on revenge after his son told him he had been hit by someone
there.
Welsh-born Mr WILLIAMS, aged 24, died in hospital a day after the incident from head
injuries, two weeks before he was due to be married.
Judge PAUL HEALY has sentenced the man to six years' imprisonment but with parole,
but he could be released after two years.
The man's son received a six-month conditional release order earlier this year after
he was found guilty of assaulting Mr WILLIAMS and causing him bodily harm.
