SWI: Peirsol reinstated as Olympic 200m backstroke winner

AARON PEIRSOL of the United States was reinstated as men's Olympic 200m backstroke
champion today after successfully appealing against his disqualification.

He had been disqualified for an illegal turn at the 150m mark.

Austrian MARKUS ROGAN was briefly promoted to winner before the Americans appealed.

PEIRSOL had finished first by more than two seconds and was climbing out of the pool
with a smile on his face when the disqualification flashed up on the scoreboard.

ROGAN returned to his silver medal place with Romania's RAZVAN FLOREA taking bronze.
