SA: Schools to get faster internet access
ADELAIDE, April 26 AAP - The South Australian government will spend $16 million to
give schools faster internet access.
Education Minister Jane Lomax-Smith said today service providers Telstra and Soul would
roll out the new broadband services over the next few months.
The upgrades would give students easier, more reliable and faster access to the world
wide web and its resources.
"This gives schools a tremendous opportunity to make online learning a big part of
the daily education of students, in addition to learning in the traditional classroom,"
the minister said.
"Faster internet access will make downloading information quicker and online lessons
will be easier for students to view."
Ms Lomax-Smith said faster internet access would be particularly beneficial to schools
in remote area, allowing the faster expansion of virtual classrooms where lessons are
beamed direct to students and teachers.
