Fed: Red tape won't tie up aged care under reforms: Santoro

The federal government says aged care won't become tied up in red tape .. under reforms
aimed at stamping out abuse of the elderly.

The workers will have to report physical and sexual abuse of elderly people and have
criminal history checks .. under the plans.

The changes .. which also require mandatory reporting of suspected abuse .. follow
a series of nursing home scandals.

Federal Aged Care Minister SANTO SANTORO says details of the reforms are yet to be
ironed out .. but the sector shouldn't be worried over concerns the changes are confusing
and unclear.
